Matt worked with the Harvard business guru John Kotter, who is one of the world's leading experts on change in complex human systems.   During that time he learned the value of a consulting approach Kotter called "walk beside, leave behind".   Most consultants either sell services that involve assessments and recommendations (that the client is left to implement) or are hired to do a specific project.  Either way, the end result is that clients don't truly learn anything useful.  Truly great consultants, however, are those that help their clients learn skills that allow them to flourish in the future without the advisor.

With that in mind, we walk alongside in deep conversations with families and family leaders.  We come to know the family well and out of that knowledge - and the uncommon wisdom of how to work with successful families - we design an approach tailored to that family which will allow them to develop core competencies.  We work with the individuals and the family system to help them build the internal capabilities that will allow them to meet the adaptive challenges of the future.  When the engagement is over, the family will have created the processes and skills it needs to thrive and the capacity to move with confidence into an uncertain, but much brighter, future.
Adult Children

Children in successful families often have difficulty finding their way in the world. We provide life coaching to children who are seeking to establish themselves in their own lives. We focus on life outcomes together with the development and implementation of personal strategies to attain them whether within the family business or not.
Walk Beside | Leave Behind
Leadership

We work with family leaders to ensure that they are focused on the right things at the right times to secure inter-generational success.  This work involves both listening deeply to the leaders own wisdom and challenging that leader as needed to create the best possible outcomes
Governance

Governance, simply defined, is how families make decisions that work.  We have learned that families are tribes and while formal governance systems can be very useful in large families, the deeper governance work involves helping families come to agreements and create the accountability that allows the promises in these agreements to be realized.
Sibling and Cousin Consortiums

Successful families find ways to involve siblings and cousins in consortiums that have them acting together from late childhood into early adulthood around issues that matter.  We help families design and implement structures that allow siblings and cousins to make common decisions around money, philanthropy and even business issues.  This type of training prepares children to step into the adult responsibilities of being part of a successful family with a track record of having worked together.
