Beyond referrals…


In our experience the professional services world is fractured and noisy.  It is difficult for professional service providers to differentiate and, in a world where clients are demanding more, competition is fierce. 

More and more advisory services firms are seeking to differentiate based not only on performance and service, but by identifying with the core concerns of their clients in connection with lifestyle, family and personal growth.  This means that lawyers, accountants and financial advisors are being forced to engage their clients on multiple levels and in multiple dimensions that they are not trained or equipped to address.  Most firms cannot afford to hire the specialists they need to deeply engage these human issues and so must create networks of strategic collaboration to meet the needs of their clients.

The problems with this approach are manifold.  Referrals in these areas are risky to the relationship of trust established with the client.  There are questions of brand alignment and potentials for breakdowns in communication between strategic partners.  There are questions of how to engage and how to work together.

More importantly, the advisors we work with truly do care about their clients. They want them to be well-served by people who are as trustworthy as they are. They want to bring to their clients only those people they know will serve their clients well and will provide the kind of support they need to do their best work with their clients.

First, we collaborate.  We do not believe in our work going forward in parallel with your work as happens in most referral relationships.  Rather, we believe that we work best when your offerings are seamlessly integrated with ours.  We often have advisors in the room with us as we work with client families and we fully expect that implementation will involve the client’s ecosystem of advisor

Second, we are strategic.  This means that we work with you to ensure that we are aligned around roles, strategic directions, focus, boundaries and communication.  We have explicit communication and agreements about how we will interact with mutual clients.  We want our relationship with your clients not to feel “bolted-on” but to be a highly integrated extension of your service model.

Third, we want you to flourish.  Our goal is to enhance your practice and provide you with deeper and better service offerings for your clients.  We want to become your trusted advisor in ways that will help you build deeper connections with your clients and with your market
